he Boffer style of fighting uses padded weapons that are the same size and only slightly lighter than a real weapon. Boffer fighting emphasizes skill and speed. Armor is not worn as protection.
Boffer weapons are made of heavy foam padding over plastic, usually PVC piping, which is then in turn wrapped in duct tape. The padding softens the blows but it is still possible to get bruised and battered using these weapons. Still, boffer fighting is statistically safer then softball.
Boffer fighting is the second most common form of weapon fighting in American, after fencing. It can be taught as a martial arts form, such as Kingston's local Order of the Roc, treated as part of a role playing game, such as New England's Nero, or used to enact mass battle's such as Dagorhir
Rules vary from group to group and in recognition of this we are using a simple rules system. Five hits to any part of the body, excepting the head and groin, eliminates a fighter.
Fighters are paired up randomly in a ladder tier. After winning each round the fighter goes on to the next round until only one fighter remains triumphant.
The tournament is open to all trained weapons fighters. If you have training in boffer weapons or martial arts training in real weapons you can sign up for the tournament.
