Bored with this world? Come join another one.
There are people out there who talk about a secret war between good and evil that is going on right now, behind the scenes. They tell tales of magic and gods and fell things with teeth that tear. I'm not saying that these things exist, but if there is a secret war then there is one… only one… chance to get into it. It is called Egregore and it is a game unlike any other. It happens in real time, in your real life, adding a new layer beneath your normal existence as you travel around the Kingston area finding clues and meeting other people to solve the mysteries of the secret war. But don't worry; there is no real war. It is only a game. We promise.

Getting Started

Egregore is a game unlike anything else out there, so bear with us for a moment and we will try to explain...

First off, Egregore is a secret supernatural battle between good and evil that is going on all around you. It's been happening for some time now, you just didn't know about. Now it's time to pick a side and join the battle.

Egregore is a game. It has the mystery of murder mystery dinners, the seeking of a scavenger hunt, the interaction of a role playing game or MMO and the social interaction of an online social game. It's played in real life, in and around the Kingston area. It is also played online on the social networks. Sound confusing? It isn't. Just read on.

This is a secret war with many players, most of who will be unknown to you. To play the game you must gather clues and information to find out what is going on (we call this the storyline), gather resources to make yourself and your friends more powerful and go on missions that will help decide the battle between good and evil and change the game for everyone else that is playing.

This might sound like a lot, and it is, which is why you play on a team of your friends called a faction. Together you can pool resources and information and decide who wants to follow up on which leads.

Now you may be looking at all the rules and shaking a little in your long johns, but don't worry. Most of these rules pertain to combat, which doesn't happen often and most of these rules won't be used until you've been playing for a while. The "What do I do after I join" section has more information on what rules you should eventually read. It's OK to go into Egregore completely lost. It's like playing a computer game. You don't know all the rules before you start, you learn them as you go along.

OK, that's the basics. I know, you are still saying, “Wait! How do I actually play?” First we are going to give you an example of play so this all makes sense…

The Lost Sleeper

One important item, called a sleeper, was never found during the first season of Egregore. Obviously this is one of the harder puzzles in the game right now. The clue for the missing sleeper is;

There is a gash in Kingston. A tear that cuts through neighborhoods and yards. A void good for nothing more than accumulating trash. In the deepest darkest part of the gash lies the fourth sleeper. No riddles this time, only truth.

Warning: You have to go through mildly rough terrain to get to this sleeper. Don't do anything stupid or go onto posted areas.

I am under the right foot of the tyrant king.
By the way, be sure to bring your sleepers and character sheets (or internet device) to the end of season event.

4/22 - The fifth sleeper has been found, the fourth sleeper is still missing. The riddle for the sixth sleeper is...
The Sixth Sleeper (FOUND)
I'm on the land of a German noble,
Choose the right section, F is for foible,
Under the chained tree, as if its mobile,
Hidden beneath bark just like a roble.

4/15 - Well it looks like I finally hid a sleeper hard enough, the fourth sleeper still hasn't been found. Here is the riddle for the fifth...
The Fifth Sleeper (FOUND)
Begin at the last car in the line
Cross the pointe, the fellows keep it fine
Do not go on land that is not mine
First on the right that isn't a pine.

The Prophecy

During each season of Egregore there is a story line. One of the goals of the game is to figure out the storyline. Whoever solves the story line gets a chance to change the game permanently. This season revolves around the prophecy;

When the future is past and the past is present,
When the chapel is found and the sentinel is girded,
When the dead king is unmasked,
And seven men ride from the forest of insanity;
Then on the dark moon rising over the circle,
The Reign of Arawn will begin,
And the Piper shall ride again.
