 Meditation Techniques: the 1-2-3 method

The writings that follow are a compilation of lessons sent to me, and some original writings of my own- as the lessons sent to me were not from the original author, I have no way to credit the author properly. I have edited the lessons a bit, and changed some wording in them, but I do not claim credit for this text as a whole, and will not attempt to separate my editing and original work from that of another author. I do, however, make one claim- that this method has worked for me, and quite well. I offer it to you, free of charge, to share with others as you wish, on the condition it does not get changed in any way. If you share this, share it as a whole, and unchanged.

The instructions below are to be used as guidelines. You will find an adaptation of these will, in one form or another, work well for you as an individual. To start off, follow them as instructions, keeping to them as best you can, and once you have formed a working system with these instructions, only then alter them to suit your own needs and style. The most important, and often the most difficult aspect of this, is visualizing things. Visualization requires a bit of imagination- but it is imagination not set free to wander aimlessly, but focused, and concentrated. A good example of this, is to think back to the home you grew up in as a child- the farther back you can recall, the better.

Think back to the bedroom you had as a child- how the room was laid out, what color the walls were, etc. Every home has it’s particular smells- try to smell the room, not just “see” it- mentally walk around it a bit- look in the closets if you like. Bend down, and look under the bed- can you smell dustbunnies? Or see your favorite sneakers? If you can, then you are visualizing it properly, and can proceed with the rest of the lesson. If not, take some time, and try to expand on this exercise, perhaps you can smell Mom making dinner, or something similar. The focus of this exercise is not to smell dust under a bed, but to be ABLE to smell it. We are looking here, to not just “see” a place and time, but to experience it, and the reason we go back to a time that is perhaps long ago, is to be able to check the accuracy of our own visualization. You KNOW what your room was like as a child- trying to visualize the inside of Lenin’s tomb, without ever having been there, would be senseless, as you have no way to “check” yourself.

1-Grounding

Grounding is quite simple, and I believe you will be most efficient and proficient in this aspect. It requires some visualization, and focus...There is a point here I want to make first-these 3 aspects, you will discover, will almost happen simultaneously. By breathing, and concentrating on your breath, this calms you down and allows you to prepare to ground and center. But by continuing to focus on the breathing, you are also centering.

To ground; plant both feet firmly on the floor, back straight (but whatever is comfortable)

While you are breathing slowly, visualize that your feet begin to grow roots to plant themselves into the very ground your feet stand on. Consider this your anchor. Once you've visualized this aspect, continue to breathe deeply yet slowly, with concentrated effort (during this process, if it makes you comfortable to close your eyes, then, by all means, do so).

2-Centering

Once you've visualized that you are grounded, and you feel secure, visualize an energy flow (however way you want to visualize energy...i.e.: light, lightning, etc) coming from the root system you have planted, and enter those roots, into your feet, up your legs, into your torso, and allow it to firmly plant itself within the center of your chest. (I feel it as a “buzzing” feeling, similar to an electric charge.) At this location is considered the Heart Chakra. Once this energy is located in this area, notice how you feel at this time. You should take note on the energy flow within the rest of the body and psyche. If you feel an imbalance anywhere, configure the energy in that center to relocate specific amounts to compensate for the imbalance.

3-Focus

Even it all out, but keep a focal center of energy in the Heart Chakra. This will be the source where you will be able to move it quickly to other areas if necessary. Since it is at the center, its easier to rotate and move the energy flows to specified areas. Once you have achieved that balance, and you have noted the energy levels are at an even keel, you should be at this point...centered.

From here, you can go into your meditations quite easily. You will find once you have understood how to meditate more efficiently and proficiently, you will be able to meditate with relative ease, without much hesitation and preparation.

Now, here are some other pointers you may want to take note of. This is quite imperative- comfortability. If you feel more at ease with a specific background noise like music, feel free to do so. Different colored candles and incense are very useful. As for the color schemes of the candles...these are my choices: red- for strength, blue- for patience, white- for purity, and green- for fertility. Jasmine incense is a good incense utilized for protection, and Frankincense is good for contacting your spirit guides. Those are the reasons why I choose those, plus, I love the scent, and, when I want to relax, I use musk. Do these incenses and colors  have some effect on one's state of mind? Yes, they do. By preparing the candles and the incense, it prepares the psyche. It=s like a subliminal message that says "Ok, we're lighting the candles, so we must be getting ready to do something".

As for background noise, I've found that some people like drums being played with the same, redundant beat. Personally, I really enjoy music. My choices range from Enya to Sarah Machlachlain. Native American music is also good, and a lot of people respond well with it. But if you prefer silence, that is fine as well. I also enjoy using white noise, like the sound of a brook.

These three aspects that I discussed, the grounding, centering and focus, would also be considered as "raising your power", a term you may have heard before. Later on, I will show you how to utilize that energy in the heart chakra.

Coming back down requires the same focus, but reversed in order. By visualizing the energy in the heart chakra going back down from where it originated from, push the excess energy out thru your feet, thru the roots, and back into mother earth. Now- if you skip this step, for any number of reasons...for example, you get unrooted/ungrounded due to an interruption, restart the process. There are pretty good odds there was a reason why you became ungrounded, so I wouldn't release the energy until whatever the situation is at hand is finished. You can keep a certain amount of this energy, but remember: the energy you took from mother earth was not yours, but borrowed, and is not yours to keep. Besides, once the process of tapping into this energy is learned, and becomes easier to use, Arobbing the bank@ is a waste of time and effort, since a Aloan@ can be obtained at any time.

It is not specifically your energy that you are tapping, exactly, but- you are able to retain a

unspecified amount for yourself, and you will know that limit with time, and a bit of gained experience.

As to cleansing, and the need for it- there will be times when you may be doing some "work", and you may run up against some negative energy. Lets say you didn't have all your protective shields in order- there may be some infiltration of that negativity into your

energy streams. You don=t want to keep this stuff. That is another reason why you will need to release that energy back, Ainto the bank@. It may even be necessary to flush, reground, and then flush again, to ensure that the negative energy is either flushed out of you, or replaced by positive energy, to make sure you cleanse yourself.

To wrap up the topic of grounding- once you have released the energy, you may then visualize the root system from your feet unrooting themselves, and then disappearing. Mind you, during this whole process, breathing is an aspect to keep you focused. (Note here......again, different people different strokes). Some people don't even do the breathing technique. If you are able to keep your focus without this technique, then by all means do so. Again, comfortability is a key here.

Once you've ungrounded- another thing I do, I eat something- doesn't have to be anything big, but a small snack. Something light, maybe- whatever is good for the individual.

Now, cleansing- there are a few ways to cleanse. The simplest, and most obvious, is to bathe. Add a little salt and or some vinegar to the water. If you want, some herbs may be soothing, but the idea here is to Awash away@ and residual Agrime@ of negative energies. How often should you do this? Well, you can never be too clean, but as to the psychic cleansing, at least once a month, do a cleansing- even if you don=t feel there is a need for one.

The important aspect of this cleansing procedure, is visualization. Visualize that you are washing away the negative "grime" from your body/spiritual body. I recommend that you cleanse after any "big" endeavor you undertake, or when you feel "dirty". You=ll know Adirty@ when you feel it.

The next lesson is to be on protection.

Protection is as important, if not more so, than the meditation itself. Just as there are good and bad people, the are positive and negative energies that you will eventually be coming into contact with. Some of these energies are those of other people doing just what you are doing, others belong to “entities” other than people. The list, if there is one, is rather long on those- you will have to learn the differences, and the cautions, on your own. The easiest mode of protecting yourself from brushing up against these energies without your consent, or without your control, is to visualize a bubble of your own energy, projected outwards around you, forming an “energy wall” that completely surrounds you, with you being in the center of this sphere. Start off by meditating, and using the energy in your heart chakra to start your shield- as you get used to it, this will be easier as you go, and will require less time meditating to do so. Eventually, you will be able to simply slip into a train of thought that allows you to instantly access this shield, and manipulate it with only a thought.

This shielding exercise will take a small amount of time for you to develop, and some more time to perfect. DO NOT try to explore the universe without a good strong shielding in place. To make this shielding strong, it requires a periodic re-enforcement. I visualize myself projecting energy into my shield to strengthen it, several times a day. The effects of doing this are cumulative, and will last for days at a time, and in some cases, even weeks. I try to make it a daily exercise, so as not to let myself get out of the habit. It does not require a full meditation, once you get the hang of it, and can be done in seconds, by merely concentrating on it. I made it a habit to do so every time I went to the bathroom, it served as both time alone to work on it, and as a reminder to do so. This made my shield quite strong in a matter of only days, and no longer required the several times a day work, dropping the need to work on it to once a day.

This shielding can be made to operate in any set of rules you care to set up- allowing only certain, trusted individuals through enough to come into contact with you, or none at all, depending on how you care to work it. The rules you set up for it are subject to your change at any time, and in any way you can visualize. Any energy belonging to someone or something that tries to pierce your shield, is looking for trouble, and will almost certainly cause it for you- do NOT toy with these energies- re-enforce your shield as best you can, and get out of where you are as soon as you can. If this were a place with no dangers to it, you wouldn’t need the shielding. Some people, having developed this ability, take some delight in “messing” with people- some will outright attack you with out provocation, just because they can. Others, are confused entities, perhaps departed souls, who are frightened, and tend to lash out. Resist the urge to help them, till you have some experience under your belt, and preferably, a teacher to guide you. There are even some entities that will try to “leech” energy from you, sometimes by deceit, sometimes by force. Do not allow them to do so- these are psychic “vampires”, and you will suffer for the contact, if you allow it.

There are many schools of thought, and books on the subject of astral projection. I have looked into many of them and come to the conclusion that most are pure bunk. I have found, to my initial surprise, that I could astrally project myself with merely a thought, once I had stumbled onto the method for getting into the astral world, which is the meditation method listed above. Once I had stopped looking for the “special effects” I had envisioned for years would be a part of this, I found that I could do things I had no idea I was capable of, simply by willing myself to do so. To date, I have shocked myself with the things I have done, and so far, have found no limitation to what I can do, though I try to advance at a slow, and steady pace. If I have a “wall”, I’d rather not find it by running into it headlong at speed. I have come to the working theory, that the only limitations I have, are those I place upon myself, and I feel confident that you will come to the same conclusions.

Simply put, astral projection is the leaving of the physical body, with the mind, or soul. This energy form of yourself, is the astral body, and most people visualize it as a close copy of the physical body, sometimes down to the clothes being worn at the time. Others envision themselves as dragons, or animal totems, or as something else entirely. Whatever you envision yourself as, others who can see you, will see you as you see your self-ie; if you envision yourself in the astral plane, as a glowing human shape, that is what others would see. You can envision yourself as a small bird, and that is what I would see, were I to come across you in the astral plane. Because of the differences in people, and they way they perceive things, your envisioning yourself as a robin, might result in my seeing you as a bluebird, but the essential image remains a bird, and of similar size and shape. Were I to project the image of a dragon, for instance, you might see one of oriental flavor, while my intent might be to seem more like a dinosaur-looking dragon. While the details may be subject to “blurring”, the essential image gets communicated as a dragon- you wouldn’t see me as a parakeet.

Once the process of astral projection is learned, you will be wondering how to navigate around this new universe- and it IS a universe, as big if not bigger than the one we know of in the scientific sense. And since I’m mentioning science, the first rule of this astral universe is- there ARE no rules. The laws of physics do not apply here, as they do not belong to this plane. Once you realize that, all things become possible. Time and space are creations of Man, and are a part of the physical plane- they mean nothing here, except as a frame of reference to your own mind. Should you choose to visit a certain event, your knowing the where and the “when” of it are all you need to go there. Numbers mean zilch- don’t waste time with them.

As an example, I will give a short description of one of my first “outings”. I have, since boyhood, been fascinated with King Arthur, and the Knights of the Round Table, and all the stories surrounding them. As a man, I have researched it somewhat, reading books by people who have looked for the “real” Camelot, etc. I wanted to “see” the real king Arthur, and endeavored to do so. I didn’t concentrate on a particular time frame, merely the location I wished to see, and the people I wished to see. I almost instantly found myself in a cold, clammy atmosphere, in a darkened hall- tho I could see without torchlight, interestingly enough. The walls were made of flat stones, laid up rather roughly, with no mortar involved, as were all the steps leading to other levels. To walk here in the dark in my physical body would be hazardous indeed. I explored a bit, and found the man I wanted- he was about my age at the time, mid to late 30’s, and was not what I was expecting at all. The rooms of this great castle Camelot were nothing like I had imagined them to be, or seen represented in movies all my life. The rooms were low ceilinged, cramped, and COLD. No fires burned in most of them, as there were no chimneys or other ventilation provided. The man I wanted was seated with his back to me, leaning over a paper he was scratching at with a quill.

I at first assumed he was a learned man, writing some historic document, some new decree advancing the cause of chivalry, perhaps. I advanced on him, he not being aware I was present, and looked over his shoulder. He was drawing a picture of a woman- I immediately knew, that this was his queen, his love, his wife. There was a sadness about him, that I became aware of, and I soon “knew” that his wife was gone- missing, and presumed dead. I could also feel his heartbreak.

This was the basis of the great romance between the Arthur of Mallory’s books, and the fair Guenivere. I came to learn quite quickly how ever, that Mallory’s stories, were so far from the truth, it was shocking. I wanted to be sure I had the right man, that this was King Arthur, and asked his name of the universe. I was answered “Artus”. This was indeed the man I wished to observe. I watched him a bit longer, and when he started to cry, inn his sadness, I left him to his privacy.

An interesting thing followed then. Having concentrated as I had on this, and wishing to learn more about Arthur, which was the entire reason for doing it, I found that information I wasn’t aware of learning, was now in my head, and it made itself known to me over the next few days, every time I thought about what I had accomplished. Artus was never the man, nor lived in the time, that Mallory wrote of. True, he WAS the basis for Mallory’s legend. But Mallory places his stories in the 11th or 12th century- I now knew that Artus lived and reigned in the mid 500’s, 700 years earlier than Mallory’s book, Le Morte de Artur. The Artus of fact, was merely a tribal chieftain, of a small group of Britons. He is usually declared as “Arthur, King of the Britons”, but he was only A king OF Britons, not the entire population of the British Isle. His knights were hardly the picture of chivalry represented, either. For the most part, they were lecherous, drunken bullies, who held their titles through virtue of wealth, usually inherited, and not earned. Hardly the knights in shining armor young girls fantasize of. They were basicly murderers, drunkards, and thieves, enforcing their will on those who could not, or would not oppose them, making them similar to the Nazis of much later years. This was a terrible burden to Artus, who envisioned something more for his people. People he ruled over by virtue of inherting his title and power from his father, Uther Pendragon, and his castle from his mother. Was there a Camelot? Yes, there certainly was. Will you ever find it on a map, or in some castle ruins? No. Camelot was a concept, the ideas Artus wished his people to embrace, to raise themselves up out of the brutish savagery they were living in. The Romans had by this time, long since been in evidence in Britain, and Artus’s name reflects the impact on the Briton lifestyle- in order to keep the romans from bothering them needlessly, many nobles named their children in the Roman fashion, and Artus would be the roman version, and root of, the name Arthur.

Artus saw the Roman civilization as a model to aspire to, perhaps not to copy completely, but to use as a foundation for a new way of life, a better one for his people. Was this the birth of the concept of chivalry? Perhaps. But, Camelot was a concept Artus held close to his heart, and was the name of his court- not the name of an actual place or building. To hear a man of the day say “I am going to Camelot.”, was to mean he was going to the kings court- wherever it may have been convening at the time. Being a time of “conquer or be conquered”, it was condusive to maintaining his reign to move from warfront to warfront, bringing his court with him, hearing cases as a judge as needed. Remember, in this time, the king or chieftains settled all matters of dispute, that were not settled “out of court” by force of arms, and even then, sometimes reversed those “decisions”.

All this, and more information was suddenly there in my head, as real as if I had lived it. While I can not offer anything as concrete proof of it all,, I hope someday to go back, and learn more. I would like to see the death of Artus, as it really happened, and compare it with Mallory. But the thought saddens me, and so I wait to do so. I offer this only as an example that time and space do not matter to the “remote observer”, working from within the astral plane. I leave it to you to discover for yourself how much, much more there is.
